Dr. Guillermo Aviles-Rodriguez
Guillermo Aviles-Rodriguez Ph.D. is a Los Angeles-based Chicana/o Art Historian with extensive experience in consulting with private, governmental, and commercial partners to identify, negotiate, and acquire culturally significant art. He specializes in sourcing art from disadvantaged communities of color and prides himself in professional, respectful, and productive interactions with his clients and collaborators. From hospitality, to corporate, to residential, Dr. Aviles-Rodriguez brings years of experience creating aesthetically rich journeys through art to institutional, corporate, and non-profit clients. In addition to his curatorial work Guillermo has applied his scholarly thinking to creatively research, design, direct and deliver a wide variety of complex and innovative arts and cultural initiatives including: Hopscotch, Meet Me @Metro, Almas Day of the Dead Celebration, Alicia In Arroyoland, and many other government, non-profit and private sector public arts projects.
Rita Cofield
Rita Cofield received a Bachelor in Architecture and Planning from Howard University and spent the early part of her career working behind a drafting table. It was by happenstance that she found herself project managing during this time and realized that she was quite good at not only managing the artistic integrity of productions but better suited to maintain the integrity of historic buildings. Shortly after receiving a Masters in Heritage Conservation from the University of Southern California she accepted a position at Getty Conservation Institute working on a special collaborative project between Getty and the City of Los Angeles Office of Historic Resources identifying and celebrating LA's Black heritage with the help of community. She continues to guide her own community in protecting and maintaining the integrity of its historic resources while ensuring they remain accessible to the community. She considers herself a neighborhood preservationist and is passionate about finding ways to re-insert multiple perspectives into the larger narratives of our history. Her life is full of activities and projects that combine her love for the arts, architecture, and empowering underrepresented communities.
